79th Academy Awards aka OSCAR NIGHT!

Last night the 79th Annual Academy Awards celebrated a year of amazing film. I was so impressed with the show last night, it was absolutely one of the best productions of the Oscars I have ever seen. Ellen was hilarious, the entertainment was just that, entertaining, from Will Farrell, Jack Black, and John C. Rieley performing a musical piece to the countless tableaus of the nominated films done by talented dancers behind an illuminated silk screen.
All of my favourites took the little statue home which I was most pleased with. I was happy to see the awards go to the right people. Jennifer Hudson winning best supporting actress was a wonderful moment, she deserved that! Best actress, of course, went to Helen Mirren for 'The Queen'. I personally am still in awe of that performance. And Forest Whittaker was my absolute most favourite moment. The second 'The last king of scotland' ended I said to Lucas that we would see him get the Oscar and he did! He so deserved that. And then on top of all these plesant surprises, Martin Scorsese was named best director and his film, 'The Departed' best picture! Lucas was most excited about this and I couldnt blame him. The Departed was my second choice for best picture, Little Miss Sunshine was my first. However, Little Miss Sunshine was not forgotten, it received best screenplay as well as a best supporting actor award for Alan Arkin.
I have never been so impressed with the Oscars as I was last night. The common belief of the Oscars being boring will disappear with more nights like this. Also, congratulations to Mr.Gore and his wins.

Watching Dad Sing

Last night the entire family (almost) was out in Maple Ridge to watch my Dad perform at a local cafe. Lucas and Michael came out as well. Michael got to finally meet Lucky, my Dad and Collette's HUGE dog(retriever/St.Bernard). We had an awesome time! Great singing Dad, I hope to be up there with you soon! :)

Valentines

My favourite new outfit! Saved it for the perfect occasion!

Lucas' modesty is always so humbling. I'll wear this with a lot of pride!!

Us, getting ready to leave, and for me, to be blindfolded for the drive to my favourite restaurant!

My favourite flowers in my favourite colours

At the end of the night I posed for just one more picture. This one is for my Gran. Thank you so much for the most beautiful coat. I think it makes the outfit!

Let the Healing Begin!!

Well, that's it, the surgery is over, the plate and screws are out and the real healing can now commence!! Yesterday morning I went into surgery. The whole thing was done on Local Anesthetic which was sooooo traumatising!!! I was completely awake. I could hear everything, including the doctor ask the nurse for a screwdriver!!! How many people can say that a screwdriver was used in their surgery?!?!? Not many! I think the worst part (light stomachs beware) was that I could feel some of the things that were happening to me. The local was not completely effective at first and I felt the first cut. Also, bones cannot take anesthetic so I could feel the screws being taken out and the plate pried off the bone which was the very worst part. I don't think I'll ever forget that. Anyway, the most important thing is that it's all out and it's all over. I am so happy to finally be starting the real healing process.

Me

I have very strong political views and I will share them with you if the occasion arises. I will tell you when you're wrong (or when you're right) and I will not scarifice my beliefs for anyone or anything. I find that people either love me for this or they hate me for it. Tonight, as I stood up for something I believed in I received strange looks, rolled eyes, and side smirks. I won't lie and say that that did not effect me, of course it effects me. What it does not do, and never will, is effect me so much that it causes me to step down.
The reality of me, is that I study one of the forbidden topics. Politics is right up there with religion as one of those topics you are never supposed to talk about over the dinner table or in various other social arenas. Well, too bad when it comes to me. Politics is what I study, it's what I do, day in and day out, I read it, I watch it, I analyse it, and I critique it. This ability and interest of mine is giving me a degree in June so it can't be that bad. And, believe it or not, that degree means that I know one or two things about the subject. Again, you can either love me for this or hate me for it but you cannot deny that it is who I am.
Tonight I stood up for something that was important to me. I chose not to participate in something I found to be racist and ignorant. Some people will not understand my reasoning, others will think that I am taking things too seriously. That is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. My opinion was not going to let me do something that in my life would be hypocritical. I am proud of myself tonight for not stepping down.
What I am not proud of is telling two girls beside me that they should not take political science because it tends to ruin some of lifes mindless pleasures. I 100% revoke this comment. I would rather be aware of what occurs in the world around me than go through life oblivious and blind to the reality that is our world. I would not trade my political science degree for any Disney movie, crude TV show, or summarised news.
So that's it, that's me, well a part of me, a big part of me. Take it or leave it.

An Awesome New Saying!!

Hey all you transit users out there, do I have news for you! They have invented a new phrase that one can use often on public transit. I know how fond you are of cool new catchy phrases and I promise, this one will not disappoint!! Are you ready? Here it is:

'Excuse me'!!!

Now, isn't that wicked!? Not only will you look cool using it, you will sound cool using it too. Not to mention it's useful!! You know those instances where someone happens to be in your way, you use this new awesome phrase and chances are they will move out of your way!! Also, by using these two small words you can rest assured that the person you're pushing out of the way will not turn around and "accidently" hit you back.
So, transit users, my dear close friends, I'm telling you, try this new phrase out, you may find that it improves your day as well as the days of other fellow transit users. Good luck and do let me know how it works out for you!!
