Bye Bye Home Depot

Saturday was my official last day at Home Depot and what a relief it was. It was so nice to know that I'm never going to have to work there ever again. No more damn self-checkout or terrible work place politics. I'm finally moving up and making some change happen in my life and it feels great. I am still not entirely sure what I am going to do with myself but now that there is some pressure to figure things out I'm sure that it is just a matter of time before I decide on something to do. And, being in the mood for change, the day before my last day I decided to get my hair cut. It was time for something really different. Although the length is still there, I couldnt completely part with my long hair I still think it is quite different, dont you?

One of Those Nights

Saturday night I had a little get together at my house. We had an awesome time playing Cranium, making milkshakes and drinking wine and various other booze. After some time at my house we headed to my friend Jill's to sit by a fire and chat there. All around a very good night.

What is Tara doing back there?? The rest of us are clearly caught up in some riveting conversation

The mint chocolate milk shakes mmmmm

Awesome pic of Lucas and Mandi attempting to drink their ultra think milkshakes through my skinny straws

Lucas and I shared one, so cute ;)

Team one for Cranium showing off our game faces.

Team two and their games faces.

Lucas up playing charades, wish I had caught him in action but the pic turned out to be quite nice anyway.

Tara is trying to sculpt something here, none of us could get it, turned out to be sardines in a can, good job T.

The classic shot.

Here we are at Jill's chillin' by the fire. That's Jill in the centre

Congratulations Mandi!!!

My very best friend Mandi called me the other day to tell me that she has been hired as a teacher in the district of Langley. This is so exciting. Mandi we are so very proud of you and everything you have achieved. I could not be happier for you. Congratulations! I just know that you will be one of the very best teachers, I hope that one day I live in the same district as you and my kids can be taught by you. Langley is lucky to have you. Good Luck and Congrats! Ok, time to celebrate!!!

Cars!

So, the other night Lucas, Michael (Lucas' little brother) and I went to see 'Cars' for Michael's 12th Birthday. It was an AWESOME movie. It was entertaining from start to finish with a soundtrack to support that. The first song in the movie is Sheryl Crow singing along to the cars racing in the Piston Cup. And the music and movie got better from there. I literally had a smile on my face throughout the entire movie. I found myself singing to songs I knew, laughing and with a big goofy smile on my face throughout the entire film. Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, George Carlin, and Larry the Cable Guy are just a few big names who loaned their voices to the captivating characters. The animation was so impressive, smart and witty, it is what made the film. 'Cars' is by far the best animated feature that I have seen in a very long time. I look forward to seeing it again (which I will in the theatre!) and buying it when it eventually comes out on DVD. And, yes, it was that good. GO SEE IT!!! You'll thank me I promise!!!!

A New Beginning

I decided today that I would quit my job. I do not have another job lined up yet so I am a little scared however I just know that this is what I have to do. I am feeling a little sad though because I work with some wonderful people who I will miss. I am also feeling scared and overwhelmed because finding a new job is not the easiest thing in the world to do. So while I know this is the right thing I am nervous. Upon this thought I remembered a couple of poems that my very good friend Shane wrote for me years and years ago. I read them sometimes when I'm having a rough day or am not feeling so great. This is the one I read today and like always it helped.

Cheer up, my friend
I hate seeing you so blue
It's not like it's the end
And you have to start anew

Don't dwell on the bad
Or even on the past
Don't look at what you had
Or how it didn't last

Just take in a deep breath
Gaze at the morning dew
Sit back and rest
It's a good day for you.

Cheer up my friend
And put your mind at ease
Most things come to an end
But, hey, you still have me

Thanks Shane for your timeless words that always help me through.

Tara's New Puppy Zoe

Last night Lucas and I went to visit Tara and her new boxer puppy Zoe. She was so adorable and full of energy, that was until Lucas wore her out running in the back yard. We had so much fun with her! Tara you're so lucky! I cant wait to have a puppy of my own one day.

Spiral Fractures

OK, so here's the thing, lately, I have been feeling like people really do not understand what happened to me in December. I understand their logic of thinking, Jenn fractured her ankle in December, now it is June, she should be better now. Wrong. I am not better now. Just because I do not walk with a limp anymore (a majority of the time I might add) I must be able to do everything else right? Again, Wrong. The reality is that unless you have suffered from the same injury as me you cannot understand exactly how I am feeling. When it comes to physical activities there are very few that I can do, I can walk (not for long periods of time), I can cycle (this is my saving grace) and I can swim. That means that I cannot do the following: Anything that includes running, soccer, baseball, tag, jogging for exercise, basketball, ultimate frisbee, I can pass a frisbee so long as I do not have to run or jump for it, iceskate, surf, rollerblade, hike, climb, if anyone has any others feel free to include them here.
To be honest this is really upsetting for me. Having this injury rules out me participating in some of my favourite activities this summer. And I know, whoa is me right?! I understand that it can be worse. But that doesn't mean that I am super happy right now. What would help though it a little understanding. I dont need sympathy, I have had enough sympathy. But here is what you can do, don't look at my ankle and say 'Ew! What happened to you?' Don't tell me that my injury or the fact that i have a plate in my ankle is 'gross' or 'disgusting'. It is neither of these things, it is a reality and it is unfortunate.
And for those of you who think I'm just milking everything I can get out of this injury I thought a few visuals might help you understand. (my plate is not as large as these but you get the idea.)
